A LITTLE HISTORY OF THE PINE RIDGE CIVIC ASSOCIATION
Over
the last several years we have heard people say that the Civic
Association is a Social Organization. This is true. The
Civic Association is a Social Organization. The Pine Ridge
Entertainment Volunteers (PREV) are in charge of our parties.
But Civic is also a watchdog over Pine Ridge. Since 1986,
several members of this community felt a need to reactivate the
Civic Association. The officers of that new board requested
total resident support, indicating that this support is necessary to
have an effective Civic Association serving the residents.
Several residents suggested at the June 12, 1986 meeting that the
function of the Civic Association include the following areas.
Social
- Within Pine Ridge.
Political
- To coordinate with local governing bodies.
Advisory
- To provide input of
residents' opinions to the Pine Ridge Service Corporation.
From the very beginning, the Civic Association has been in the
forefront of Water Issues in Pine Ridge. The Civic Association
also had a Utility, Street Lighting, Cleanup, Fact Finding, Habitat
and Golf Committees among others.
The meeting dates of all Civic meetings are the second Monday of the
month with the exception of July and August. As to our Voting
procedure: As far back as 1988, members were asked before voting to
bring membership cards in order to vote. The revised By-law of
September 2004, Article III SECTION C. VOTING RIGHT states:
Each active member (ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP - Limited to resident
homeowners in Pine Ridge whose dues are paid), over 18 years of age,
whose dues are current, shall be entitled to one vote.
Absentee ballots will not be allowed.
According to the Civic Association By-Laws, ARTICLE V, SECTION B.5.,
TREASURER - No unbudgeted expenditures exceeding ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS
shall be incurred by the Officers or Board without the voted
approval of the membership. So you must be present at a Civic
Association meeting to vote. All Civic members are notified
ahead of the meeting dates, by the Post, sometime in local
newspapers and the Civic Web Site
www.pineridgecivic.org.
In the past four years only, two Special meetings were called for
with plenty of notice and they were well attended.
All above information is verifiable from Historic POSTs and the 2004
addition of the Civic By-Laws.
I urge all of you to take a little time and read through all the
back issues of the PINE RIDGE POST located in the fireside room of
the Community Center. You will be amazed at what the Civic
Association did for this community and is still doing on issues that
concern Pine Ridge.
